Murray Radio Control
Modelers, Inc. (AMA Charter #1728) is open to any individual who is
interested in building, flying or just enjoying radio controlled
model planes.
Club meetings are held the second Saturday of each month at 9:30 AM
at locations to be announced on the CONTACT US and UPCOMING EVENTS pages.. Summer
meetings are conducted at the flying field. ( Map Link above ) Club membership dues are
$50.00 per calendar year, and are used to maintain the flying
facility and property lease and to cover the cost of field
maintenance during the flying season. Individuals belonging to the
club must also maintain a current AMA (Academy
of Model Aeronautics) membership primarily for insurance coverage and other benefits
afforded AMA chartered clubs.
The Murray R/C Modelers annually host a fun fly, a swap meet and one
or two field days for local cub scouts and schools.
The club presently has one sanctioned instructor to assist those
just learning to fly radio control and can provide access to a
training plane if the individual does not yet have his own plane
prepared to fly. Training is accomplished with the aid
of "Buddy Boxes" and voice direction. During the warmer months, club
members may be found flying daily, although Saturdays and Sundays
generally will have the heaviest attendance at the field. Members
come from varied backgrounds and model interests ranging from SCALE
to SPORT to COMBAT to 3D are all represented. While everyone is
welcome to observe, flying is restricted to club members, their
guests with AMA membership, and student fliers working with the
certified instructors. Questions and / or requests for information
may be directed to any of the club officers.
The Club's new flying field and facilities located on
Murray/Calloway County Airport property are now fully operational.
The field includes an 80' x 600' mown grass strip, 5 flight
stations, safety barriers, pavilion, bleachers and extensive
parking.
